Deep inside a forest filled with towering green trees and brightly colored wildflowers lived an adorable bunny named Amy. She had long, floppy ears and a short, fluffy tail that looked like a puff of cotton candy. Every single day, she would happily hop, hop, hop across the grassy meadows.
One morning, while digging in the dirt near the edge of the forest, Amy uncovered a delightful surprise: a bright orange carrot! Even though it was quite tiny, it looked perfectly crunchy and sweet, and it smelled absolutely delicious. Amy hugged the little treat to her chest, her tummy rumbling with a loud grumble-rumble.
Just then, her good friend Snowy came hopping along. When he saw the carrot in Amy's paws, his eyes lit up. Rubbing his empty tummy, Snowy looked hopefully at Amy and asked if she would share half of it so he could have a taste.
Amy looked down at the tiny carrot. She thought that if she gave half to Snowy, she would hardly have anything left, and she would still be hungry! So she squeezed the carrot tightly, shook her head, and told him, "This carrot is too small. I want to eat the whole thing all by myself. I don't want to share."
Hearing this, Snowy's tall ears drooped down to his shoulders. His bright eyes filled with sadness and disappointment. Without saying a word, he nodded slowly and hopped away, feeling heartbroken. That day, Amy ate the carrot all by herself, but for some reason, it didn't taste quite as sweet as she had hoped.
The very next afternoon, a gentle breeze blew through the forest. Snowy's mother had just come back from the vegetable garden and given Snowy a gigantic carrot! It was plump and crisp, and it smelled so wonderful that Amy caught the delicious scent from all the way across the meadow.
Following her nose, Amy quickly hopped over to find Snowy. Looking at the giant carrot, her mouth started to water. Full of excitement, she asked if he would please share a piece of it with her.
Snowy looked at Amy and reached out, ready to snap the giant vegetable in two and generously share it with his friend. But suddenly, he remembered what had happened the day before. He remembered how hungry he had been, how much he had hoped for a little bite, and how Amy had said no. Thinking about that sad, lonely feeling made Snowy pull his paws back.
Hugging his giant carrot tightly, Snowy said softly, "Amy, yesterday my tummy was so hungry, and I asked you to share a little bit of your carrot, but you wouldn't. So today, I want to eat this big carrot all by myself, too. I don't want to share."
Amy stood frozen right where she was, watching Snowy happily munch away on his sweet, crunchy treat. Her cheeks turned bright red, and her heart filled with regret. A single thought kept spinning around in her mind: if only she had shared a little piece of her small carrot yesterday, she could be eating a piece of that giant, delicious one today!
