Deep inside a magical place called Rumble-Bumble Valley, there was a very busy, very loud town called Monster Village.
The monsters who lived there came in all shapes and sizes! Some had fluffy hair in five different colors, and others had little glowing stars right on top of their heads. But no matter how silly or scary they looked, they all had one big thing in common: none of them ever went to sleep!
In Monster Village, the lights were on twenty-four hours a day. The amusement park roller coasters never stopped zooming, school lasted all day and all night, and the air was always filled with joyful, noisy chatter.
Living in this loud little town was a monster named Boo. Boo had big, bright eyes and was covered from head to toe in soft, squishy blue fuzz.
One day, Boo was reading a picture book all about "humans" at the library. He noticed something very strange. In the book, whenever it got dark outside, the humans would close their eyes, lie down on a squishy thing called a "bed," and stay perfectly still!
Boo thought this was the silliest thing he had ever seen. He hugged his book, ran straight home, and asked his dad, "Papa, why do humans have to sleep every single day? Do they break down when nighttime comes?"
Papa Monster thumped his big, strong chest and let out a proud, booming laugh. "Hahaha! Oh, my silly boy! Humans only need to close their eyes and recharge because they are weak. We monsters are mighty! We have endless super-energy buzzing inside our bellies. We don't need to waste our time sleeping—we can play and play forever!"
Even though Papa said that, Boo’s mind was still bubbling with curiosity. What does sleeping actually feel like? he wondered. Where do you go when you close your eyes? So, Boo decided to play pretend. He was going to try this "sleeping" thing for himself!
He went to the corner of his bedroom and gathered a big pile of the softest leaves he could find. Then, he wrapped himself up like a little blue burrito in his coziest, fuzziest blanket. Boo lay down nice and still, just like the humans in his picture book, and gently closed his big eyes.
At first, it was tricky. He could hear all the other monsters outside his window singing loudly and playing games, which made it very hard to focus. But slowly, slowly, the noisy sounds began to fade away.
Boo felt his squishy blue body become as light as a fluffy white cloud floating in the sky. Then, he slipped right into a wonderful world filled with bright, colorful balloons and the yummiest-looking candy. It was his very first dream!
He didn't know how much time had passed, but eventually, Boo blinked his eyes open. He stretched his arms way up high, let out a giant yawn, and suddenly realized he felt... amazing! It was a magical feeling he had never felt before.
His brain felt crystal clear, everything looked perfectly bright, and his whole body was bursting with real super-energy. He felt like he could jump right over the tallest tree in the whole village!
When Boo went to Monster School that day, something spectacular happened. Usually, math class made Boo's head spin with all those dizzying numbers, but today, he took one look at the board and knew the right answers right away! During gym class, he ran faster than the wind. Even the gym teacher couldn't catch him!
In just a few short days, Boo's test scores zoomed all the way to the top, and he became the number one student in his class.
His teachers and friends were absolutely amazed. They crowded around Boo and asked if he had secretly chugged a magical, brain-boosting potion.
Boo just smiled, shook his fluffy blue head, and announced to the whole class, "I didn't drink any magic potions! All I did was go to sleep! It turns out, sleeping is the best super-magic of all!"
From that day on, more and more little monsters in the village started gathering soft leaves to lie down and try sleeping. And to their great surprise, everybody found out the wonderful truth: getting a really good sleep actually makes you smarter, stronger, and ready to take on the world!
