Once upon a time, nestled in the heart of nature, stood a beautiful, emerald-green mountain. It was covered in tall pine trees and bright, colorful flowers, with a crystal-clear creek babbling right through the middle.
The forest animals absolutely loved to come and play here. Some would roll around in the soft, grassy meadows, some would splash and catch fish by the stream, and others would play tag high up in the treetops. From morning until night, the mountain was filled with happy cheers and joyful laughter.
At the very top of the mountain was a wide-open, breezy hill. It was the perfect spot for flying kites. A tiger named Archie loved coming here to fly his giant, bright red kite. When the wind caught it, the kite soared so high into the sky that it looked just like a fiery red bird gliding through the clouds.
But Archie had a problem: he didn't like it when other animals interrupted his kite-flying.
So, one day, Archie marched down to the bottom of the hill and hammered a giant wooden sign into the dirt. It read:
ARCHIE’S MOUNTAIN. KEEP OUT!
From that day on, whenever any animal tried to hike up the mountain to play, Archie would leap out from the bushes. He would wave his sharp claws, puff out his chest, and roar, "This is MY mountain! Go away!"
The little animals were so scared that they tumbled head over heels down the hill, too afraid to ever come near it again.
Days went by, and the mountain grew very, very quiet. Archie was the only one left at the top of the hill with his beautiful kite. But without the cheerful laughter of the other animals, he felt a funny, empty feeling in his tummy. It didn't matter how high his kite flew; it just wasn't as fun anymore.
One evening, Archie was flying his kite at sunset. The sky was glowing a beautiful orange-red, matching the color of his kite. Suddenly, thick plumes of dark smoke puffed up from the bottom of the mountain, followed by bright, crackling flames!
Somehow, the dry brush at the bottom of the hill had caught fire. The flames were spreading fast, wrapping the entire mountain in a ring of fire.
Archie tried to run down, but there were flames everywhere. He was trapped! Stuck at the very top of the mountain, he squeezed his eyes shut and yelled out in fear, "Help! Somebody help me!"
Down in the valley, the animals heard Archie’s cries for help.
Little Rabbit twitched her long ears and grumbled, "He's always so mean to us. Why should we help him?"
Squirrel flicked his bushy tail and agreed, "Exactly! He brought this on himself!"
But Old Goat stroked his long, white beard and spoke in a gentle, patient voice. "Children, saving a life is what matters most right now. We all make mistakes sometimes, don't we? Let's go help him together!"
Listening to Old Goat, the animals quickly teamed up to fight the fire. Little Rabbit and her siblings used tiny wooden buckets to scoop water from the creek, splashing it onto the flames. Squirrel scurried up the trees, knocking down showers of dirt and green leaves to smother the smoky branches. The birds flew back and forth, dropping bits of wet mud from their beaks to put out the fire, while Old Goat stood tall, directing everyone to make sure the whole team stayed safe.
Finally, after a lot of hard work and teamwork, the fire was completely put out.
The exhausted animals climbed to the top of the mountain, where they found Archie huddled in the grass. His beautiful orange fur was covered in black soot, and his giant red kite was burned up. He looked very messy and very sad.
Archie hung his head, his voice trembling as he spoke. "Thank you for saving me. I am so, so sorry. I shouldn't have hogged the mountain, and I never should have chased you away. I just loved flying my kite so much that I forgot this mountain belongs to all of us. I promise I'll never be mean like that again."
Little Rabbit blinked her big eyes and stepped forward. "Well, then you have to promise us one thing!"
Archie nodded eagerly.
Little Rabbit smiled. "From now on, you have to teach us how to fly kites! Yours always flew the highest, and we all want to learn!"
Archie’s eyes went wide with surprise, and then a big, warm smile spread across his face. "Okay! It's a deal!"
From that day on, Archie never chased anyone away. Instead, he spent his days at the top of the mountain teaching Little Rabbit, Squirrel, and the birds how to ride the wind. Their kites danced in the sky—red, blue, yellow, and green—looking just like a beautiful, soaring rainbow.
And once again, the beautiful emerald mountain was filled with happy cheers and joyful laughter.
