The Witch Who Stole the Songs

The Witch Who Stole the Songs

Once upon a time, in a forest far, far away, there lived a very serious, very grumpy witch. She didn’t know how to sing, and worse, she absolutely hated hearing anyone else sing. As far as she was concerned, songs simply shouldn't exist!

Every day, she roamed the forest holding a little magic wand and carrying a great, big sack over her shoulder. She was on a mission: to hunt down songs, snatch them out of the air, and tie them up tightly inside her bag.

One sunny morning, the witch was stomping through the woods when she heard a little bird singing a happy, chirpy tune in a tree.

The witch pointed her finger and scolded, "Stop that singing right now! Songs should not exist!"

The little bird shook its head. "But I love to sing! Singing makes me feel so happy."

The witch was furious! She waved her wand, yanked open her sack, and cast a spell. Whoosh! The bird’s lovely melody was sucked right into the bag. From that moment on, the poor little bird couldn’t sing a single note.

The witch kept walking. Soon, she spotted a little deer softly humming in a grassy meadow.

"No singing allowed!" the witch snapped impatiently.

The little deer stubbornly replied, "But I love to sing. Singing makes me feel relaxed."

Boiling with anger, the witch waved her wand again. Zap! The deer's hum was swept right into the sack. From that moment on, the little deer couldn’t sing a single note.

A little further down the path, the witch heard a sound coming from the pond. She peeked over the cattails and saw a little green frog singing a bumpy, jumpy rhythm.

"Quiet!" the witch said coldly. "The world doesn't need songs!"

The brave little frog puffed out its chest and said, "But I love to sing! Singing makes me feel free."

The witch gave her wand a fierce wave, and—gulp!—the frog’s song went straight into the dark bag. From that moment on, the frog couldn’t sing a single note.

Feeling quite pleased with herself, the witch wandered into a deep valley. Suddenly, a massive wave of music hit her ears—it was so loud it almost shook the leaves off the trees! She stomped furiously into the valley and found a giant, sparkling concert. The singers on stage and a huge crowd of fans were all belting out a joyful chorus together.

The witch leaped high into the air and yelled, "STOP SINGING!" But her voice was completely drowned out by the joyous music.

She waved her wand wildly. There were so many people that it took all her energy, but finally, she managed to draw every single song from the singers and the crowd right into her giant sack.

The singers and the audience glared at the witch, puffing their cheeks in anger. "Give us our songs back!" they shouted.

But the witch just shook her head. Hauling her heavy, bulging sack, she left the valley and headed home, feeling very proud of her quiet new world.

What the witch didn’t know was that she was being followed!

She went back to her dark cave, dropped her heavy sack on the floor, and immediately fell fast asleep, snoring loudly. Meanwhile, the bird, the deer, the frog, and the concert crowd had crept along right behind her.

The moment she was asleep, they tiptoed into the cave and untied the bag. Whoosh! The songs instantly flew out of the sack and back to their rightful owners. Everyone was overjoyed, and they quietly sneaked out of the cave.

But just after they left, three sneaky robbers arrived. They had heard rumors about the witch's priceless magic wand and came to steal it in the night.

The witch woke up in a fright. "Please," she begged, "that is my favorite wand. Don't take it!"

But the greedy robbers wouldn't listen. They stepped closer and closer.

Luckily, just outside the cave, the bird, the deer, the frog, and all the concert-goers heard the commotion. Together, they took a deep breath and started to sing as loudly and bravely as they could, marching back toward the cave.

Hearing the booming, powerful chorus echoing in the dark, the robbers were terrified! They thought a giant monster was coming. They dropped the wand and ran away as fast as their legs could carry them.

The witch sat on the floor of her cave, amazed. She listened to the beautiful voices swirling around her. For the very first time, she realized how lovely and powerful music could be. Before she even knew what was happening, her toes began to tap, and she joined in, singing along with everyone!

The witch knew she had been wrong. She looked at her new friends and gave them a sincere, heartfelt apology. Everyone smiled and forgave her—they even invited her back to the valley to finish the concert!

From that day on, the witch never hated singing again. In fact, every single morning, she woke up, opened her window, and sang a happy duet with the little bird, experiencing all the wonderful magic that music brings.
